Before you buy a chair slipcover it can be helpful to make a checklist so that you know exactly what you’re looking for. Here are our suggestions to get you started:
- Is your seat cushion a box or T shape? Make sure you order the right style.
- Would a one piece or two piece slipcover look best? Think about what would blend well with other furniture in your room.
- Do you have pets or kids? The chances are you will need to wash your slipcover regularly to keep it clean, so look for a washable one.
- What fabric do you prefer the look of? There are several different stretch fabrics available, which will project a sleek, modern image, including faux leather and suede. Alternatively, you may opt for a more classic material such as twill or cotton duck.
- What’s your room’s color scheme? Make a shortlist of potential colors that will help you coordinate a mis-matched chair with your couch, carpet and other features in your room.
- What’s your budget?

Chair Slipcover Reviews
Made from 100% cotton, this slipcover is sturdy and hard wearing. It will stand up to regularly being laundered in the machine and is certainly “pet friendly”. Unlike some slipcovers made from synthetic material, this one doesn’t attract lint or hairs.
The cotton is easy to keep clean, and is robust enough to withstand cat claws, jumping kids and sleeping dogs! The only extra care it will need is the ties at the front of the arms look best if they’re ironed after washing.
The material is not too heavy, so it is reasonably easy to fit the cover on your own. It is designed for box cushion seats and will fit chairs up to 43” wide x 36” high. It is quite large-sized, so will fit most over-stuffed armchairs. However, on a regular chair you will likely need to tuck some of the excess into the corners to get the best fit.
As well as being functional and ideal for homes with children or pets, this slipcover looks great too. It has a straight skirt at the front and ties under each arm. It’s a classic style that will work well with traditional decor, but can also be incorporated into a more modern room. Be aware though, that the ties have a tendency to come out of the drier crumpled, and you may want to iron them before re-fitting the cover.
This is a great value slipcover that will stand up to lots of use, so it’s a good buy for families or pet owners. You may need to iron the ties after washing, but this is no major inconvenience. It’s worth knowing that it’s generously sized, which is good if your chair is oversized, but will mean more tucking to get a neat fit if your chair is smaller than average.
This stretch fabric has a striped corduroy-like texture, which is comfortable to sit on and feels soft to the touch. It’s made from polyester with 7% Spandex, which helps it fit snugly. This material does have a tendency to pick up pet hairs, so may not be ideal for dog or cat owners. However, it is machine washable and will stand up to a lot of use.
This slipcover has a separate cover for the seat cushion and can be fitted very quickly, in about 5-10 minutes. The stretch in the fabric enables it to fit most T-cushion chairs as well as regular box cushion ones. It is quite large – designed to fit chairs up to 38” wide – so it’s a good choice for an over-stuffed chair. However, you may find you need to make a few adjustments if your chair is not over-sized. The cover might gradually work loose, but this can be easily remedied by re-tucking around the arms every once in a while.
The separate seat cover gives this slipcover an elegant tailored look and helps keep the main cover in place. The material looks like it is good quality and appears to be more expensive than it actually is. It does a good job of giving dated furniture a contemporary new look and is very good value for money.
We like the look and feel of the corduroy fabric, but isn’t the best choice if you’re looking for something that’s pet friendly! However, in a pet free household, this slipcover could successfully transform a worn out chair and offers an affordable way to coordinate your furniture without spending too much money.
